Hey! I'm Jake. I'm an investment banking analyst in the EMEA healthcare team. I'm based in Canary Wharf, London. I chose healthcare because my sister's deaf, and I thought it's something that I would find fulfilling and impactful. I did the internship within the healthcare team. I loved it so much. So, I actually chose to come back the next year, joining as a full-time analyst. In my role, I support the senior members of my team, advise healthcare companies. So, on a day-to-day basis, we're helping them find different options and help them pursue the best decisions to help their company take to grow and get to the next level. Sometimes, some of the ideas I come up with are ridiculous and could never work. The thing that I really like is that the seniors will take time to look at what I have said. At the end, we can create something that would work. We're provided with training, support, feedback regularly, and I think all these things can help me improve each day and grow.
There's the technical side, which is the finance. And then, there's the soft skill side, communicating and trying to work on that more personal element. When you put all these things together, we can create something which gives our clients the full package. Running helps me to be confident and it improves my self-esteem. Sprinting is like working for an investment bank. They are both intense and you need to give it 100%. You have people from all over the world here in London. Diversity is really important to me because you get diversity of thought, you get different ideas, and that means you can get different solutions and outcomes.
“work hard and you'll get rewarded”
The advice I'd give to someone starting out in finance: work hard and you'll get rewarded, be patient, and Rome wasn't built in a day.
