Lesson Overview

Is this the right tv for you?

Latest TV offering from Samsung.

Script:

Hi, I'm Karl with Abt and in this video, we're gonna be giving you a look at the NU 6900 series from Samsung. It's available in 43, 50, 55, 65, and 75 inches so there's a variety of sizes to choose from and they're all great values at those respective sizes The design is pretty standard for a more budget-minded TV. You get a slightly thicker bezel than you're gonna find on models that are up from here but it's nothing distracting. Depth-wise, it's only slightly deeper than the RU 7100 series so it's still something that's gonna look great if you decide to mount it on your wall. If you're not putting it on the wall though you do get a pedestal in the box, there's two feet that are easy to install but they are set pretty far apart so just remember to double-check the width of your stand to make sure the TV will fit.As you move around to the back, you're gonna see all of your inputs. There's two HDMI, one of which does have an audio return channel. You also get a single USB, Ethernet, and an antenna input. For everyone keeping track at home it's not a lot of inputs but that's also why this is available at such a low price point. It's important to keep in mind what components you are going to be hooking up to make sure you don't run out of those inputs. You can always add an HDMI switcher or a sound bar that has extra HDMI is built-in. I'll put a link down in the description of a couple of options that'll work well with this TV.Now, as far as sound goes this one has a 20-watt system built in that's similar to other TVs that are available right now. It's good enough for most applications but if you're gonna be using this primarily for watching movies I would suggest looking into a sound bar that'll help make dialogue easier to understand and add some much-needed bass.

Where this one really stands out, especially at the budget level is its picture it's 4k and can playback HDR, just don't expect QLED-level details in your HDR playback for its price though it does a really impressive job. Contrasting color quality are in line with TVs that are much more expensive and black uniformity was quite good as well. You'll definitely appreciate the picture performance that this one is gonna give you in a dark room As far as motion goes, it doesn't fine job with that as well. Sports as well as other fast-moving objects looked good moving across the screen. You do get enough motion blur to really make everything look natural, and the 6900 had some decent input lag times. We were getting about seven milliseconds when we ran our test on 1080p at 60 Hertz with game mode turned on. The overall picture quality really carries this TV and it makes it one that should be very appealing to a wide variety of consumers

“terrific picture at an extremely reasonable price”

In addition to the picture, another great benefit though is the operating system. Samsung does a terrific job organizing everything at the bottom of the screen in their Smart Hub layout. Menus are easy to navigate and selecting from the available apps is a straightforward process that anyone's going to be able to get the hang of easily even if you've never used this operating system before. It comes with a pretty basic remote but you get everything there that you're going to need to make it all work. If you're looking for a TV that offers a terrific picture at an extremely reasonable price point, you'll definitely want to check out the NU 6900. Answers:

Part 1: Comprehension

This video is a Samsung TV review created by Abt, a company that seems to specialize in electronics. The review looks at specifically the Samsung NU 6900 and focuses on the fact that is reasonably priced. The speaker introduces the product from a natural perspective as he doesn’t seem to be sponsored by Samsung, and he talks about the TV’s picture quality and why he thinks it’s a good buy at that price point. He states that it comes in a variety of sizes 43, 50, 55, 65, and 75 inches and that it’s more for people who are budget minded. He advises that while it is a good TV one drawback could be the lack of inputs, stating that customers should know how many inputs they need and if necessary, they could buy additional connections. Lastly, the speaker talks briefly about the Samsung Smart hub and how its menu is conveniently located and easy to use.

Part 2: True or False

A: False B: False C: True D: True

Part 3: Guess the meaning of unknown vocabulary or phrases

a) "Budget-minded" Answer: I think in this situation budget-minded means that it’s a relatively cheap TV that would suit consumers who are shopping on a budget because in the video Karl states that the TVs are good value.

b) "Mount" Answer: It means to place or fix an object on the wall because in the video the speaker talks about how the TV would look good on the wall.

c) "Double-check" Answer: I think this means that we should check something a couple of times to make sure it’s right because in the video the speaker is advising the two feet on the TV are pretty far apart so consumers need to make sure the TV fits the stand.

d) "Get the hang of" Answer: I think it means learning how to do something because in the video Karl talks about how using the applications is a straightforward process and that they are easy to use.

Part 4: Dictation

a) Fill in the blanks (0:48 - 1:10 minutes) It's important to keep in mind what components you are going to be hooking up to make sure you don't run out of those inputs.

b) Fill in the blanks (1:18 - 1:24 minutes) Now, as far as sound goes this one has a 20-watt system built in that's similar to other TVs that are available right now.

c) Dictation 3 - Fill in the blanks (2:05 - 2:12 minutes) You do get enough motion blur to really make everything look natural, and the 6900 had some decent input lag times.

Part 7: Writing (example)

My TV is a 42-inch LG model, perfect for my living room. It has a slim frame that makes the screen look almost borderless. The display is really clear; it's a 4K screen, which means it has lots of tiny pixels that make everything look very detailed. I love watching nature documentaries because the colors are so vivid and the movements are smooth, thanks to the high refresh rate. It also has HDR, so when I watch movies with dark scenes, I can see all the details. The sound from the TV is quite good. The speakers are built into the bottom of the screen and they can produce a surround sound effect, which is great when I'm watching a film or listening to music. It's a smart TV, so it connects to my Wi-Fi, and I can use it to stream shows from Netflix or YouTube. The interface is very user-friendly; it has a simple menu that I can navigate easily to find what I want to watch. It's like having a big computer screen on my wall that can do almost everything I need for entertainment.
